New York 1940's street scene, showing a TARS (Third Avenue Railway System) streetcar No 370 which has just been brought from the 'carbarn' (depot) on to the mainline and sits just beneath the start of the 'el'  (Elevated Railway). As you can see at this point in the system, there is no overhead line for the car to pick up power from. In this case the car will run from a conduit running below a 'third rail' in the centre of the track.

A nice mix of period cars add to the aesthetics of this scene.

This will be produced as a print so keep a lookout for an update as to when these will be available.

"Sleeping Giant"

This is a 1961 EMD 9A and was leased to Amtrak in 1974 and operated by them for the remainder of it's working life. the faded colours it retains are those of the Amtrak company.

It now remains resting on a piece of abandoned track in Louisiana, USA awaiting hopefully for restoration.

This leviathan of the rails still impresses even in this sad condition with the rust making its presence increasingly felt.

I have entitled this painting the 'Sleeping Giant' which I feel is appropriate.

"Last Stop"

This is a 1940's St Louis PCC Streetcar.

The PCC (President's Conference Committee) designed streamlined elegant streetcars/tramcars in the 1930's. The design style continued for the next couple of decades.

This particular car has ended up in woodland in the mountains of Pennsylvania, USA. It forms part of a large collection of retired cars, which was started in the 1990's. Some of the cars that came here have been restored and some sold on to operational tramways.

This car has however been left to languish in the woodland and is slowly decaying.

As will be seen the rust stained colours of the original paintwork and the disintegrating bodywork makes for a stunning visage, which I hope I have reflected in this painting.

Sadly I don't think this streetcar will ever run again, hence the title 'Last Stop'
